We've kicked the habit. The gee gee habit, that is. (What's a gee gee- soft "g" sound? It's a pacifier! My oldest started calling it a gee gee in an attempt to say "binky", and two kids later "gee gee" it still is!) After hyping up our little Ava for her "gee gee all gone party" we finally pulled it off. This girl loved her some gee gee! She will be three at the end of August and this was something we'd been dreading, taking her gee gee away. So we pumped up the party, told her the gee gee fairy was coming to take her gee gee to babies that needed it and braced ourselves for multiple days of meltdowns. The morning of she woke up to the house decorated in streamers and balloons. Daddy took her and Sister to a morning movie and when she got home I showed her the cake I had made for her party (she asked for a purple and green cake, the inside is rainbow!). Before naptime she had a special phone call from the gee gee fairy (Nana) thanking her for sharing her gee gee with other babies. We hung it on a tree in our yard and she cried (I did too). She went down for her nap, but didn't sleep. Not too much crying either.
After naptime her friends arrived and the kids (and my husband) went on the slip and slide, swam in our little pool and rode their scooters around our cul-de-sac. You see, Ava's suprise from the gee gee fairy was a Tinkerbell scooter she'd been pining for for a few months. The gee gee fairy left it under the same tree and there were beautiful feathers scattered all over the yard!
After yummy cake and fun with friends we had dinner and a special late bedtime. That's when things got a little hairy. My sweet girl cried for a while, and finally fell asleep. But then awoke several times during the night, crying. So heartbreaking!
But I'm happy to report that each naptime/bedtime after that got easier and easier for her. And here we are less than a week later and she is gee gee free and doesn't even ask for it anymore! All in all it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!! Yay for Ava!!
