We're pretty classically minded this year. We use almost everything from Peacehill Press. Story of the World (vol.2), Writing With Ease, First Language Lessons and we're trying out their Bible curriculum this year as well (we love it so far). We're using Rod & Staff for spelling and science. Song School Latin for Latin. Yes, we're learning Latin. Why? Because it helps us with our reading and writing and vocabulary in English! And the kids are LOVING and GETTING IT! This might be their favorite subject.
We're also learning about famous artists and composers. And learning to draw the world map from memory. We do LOT'S of memory work, recitation and memorizing definitions. We love reading aloud together. Chloe is doing Saxon Math 5/4 and Ava Singapore Math 2 A/B. She loves math. Chloe's using Saxon's instructional dvds this year and they have saved us!!!!
I ordered Rod & Staff preschool/pre-k for Silas and he does it when he feels like it or when he wants to earn some candy! Shep, well, he naps when we do school, mostly. Or gets into mischief.
We use the first part of the morning to get chores done, play a bit, get dinner ready and get our school stuff together. Usually the girls will take turns working on something independently in the morning. After lunch I do some work with Silas first, then he naps. Shep naps from about 12-3:30 (!!!!) and we do the bulk of our stuff then. After he wakes the girls work independently some more. Once Daddy gets home we wrap up, unless someone is still trying to finish their work. Overall, our school day takes about 4.5-5hrs with play time and lots of interruptions mixed in.
Ava is in second grade, Chloe in fourth. It's fun! (And exhausting.) But mostly fun.
