My baby is entering toddlerhood-ish. He's not yet a year but we're seeing a lot of indepedence emerging. He's still very into his mama, but this weekend began crying everytime his daddy left the room, crawling after him. And the crawling. Oh, the crawling. It's morphed from army crawl to regular baby crawl, the only of my three to make that leap. And he stands. Pulls himself up, lets go, holds out his arms like "look at me, i'm doing it!", and stands. Then plops down and applauds himself. He's growing up too fast for me. But still likes to nurse in the middle of the night (ever since he was sick back in feb we're back to waking up a few times a night to nurse. I miss sleep). He's transitioning from babyfood to table food. He gets mad when his sisters take a toy away from him. He dances. He gets into everything. He is pure boy, and such a joy. It blows my mind how different the two genders are, even at such a young age.
My girls. Oh these girls of mine. Ava is getting so smart. She can spell everyone's name in our family and loves "doing school" with Chloe each day. She is learning to be compassionate to others and one of my favorite things is how sincerely she thanks me for doing things for her. Every little thing all day, she thanks me for. Things like buying groceries, helping her put her shoes on, snuggling up to her on the couch. It warms my heart. She adores her siblings. She is rarely further than 5 feet from Chloe. It's so precious how these two are best friends. She and Chloe tell me every single day how much they both love having a baby brother.
My big Chloe girl. With her long hair and spindly legs she is far more child-like than ever before. She too is incredibly compassionate. Every coin she finds she begs me to let her give it to Ruth, the Compassion child her Sunday school class sponsers. She talks about how Ruth's parents will use that exact nickel to buy food for Ruth. Chloe can read so well, and is starting to read on her own initiative. Recently we got a glimpse into the world of kindergarten mean girls and let me tell you, this Mommy was livid as I watched another girl do my girl wrong. I had to restrain the momma-bear within. I helped Chloe try to deal with this situation by giving her the tools to talk with this other girl, but in the end my girl was still hurt. Makes me so thankful that these experiences are so limited as a homeschooled family. A tiff with a sibling is one thing, deliberate mean-ness by another 5 year old is a whole other ball game. It broke my heart watching my girl deal with this.
I'm enjoying these days with my littles more than ever. Stopping to be thankful for the small moments as I know they will remember these days and the little fun things we've done fondly. I want their childhood to exude wonder, and grace and excitement.
Just an update :)
